vas3k's: Computational Photography
From Selfies to Black Holes is a great explainer

Computational photography has arrived. For an explainer, see vas3k's: Computational Photography From Selfies to Black Holes as predicted by yours truly in 2015 :-) in my post: Computational Photography is coming . Not that I'm a great prophet, in 2015 I was clearly right and in 2019 it's obvious I'm right what with the L16, phones with 2, 3 and more sensors, etc.

Digital camera software by subscription is inevitable unless you are not connected to the internet

Operating system updates will break your digital camera software. Security vulnerabilities will be found that require updates too, etc, etc

I understand the whole tempest in a tea pot about Adobe forcing a subscription model for Photoshop and Lightroom (It's bad marketing IMHO for Adobe to have pretended that subscription was forever going to be "just an option") but unless you:

don't connect your computer to another computer on the internet or otherwise,

never buy new digitial cameras

never upgrade your operating system

you need software updates for digital camera and other software. And this costs money to develop. It ain't free. (At least not with current software construction techniques which result in insecure, unverified software).
